LA Audio Show 2017
High End Zone had a great time at the LA Audio Show from June 2nd through June 4th this year. Perhaps you visited one of our rooms and experienced a beautiful 2 Channel demo, or an amazing home theater Atmos demo. If you missed us, we will have videos up on our website soon, highlighting both of our rooms. We were delighted when we found out that each room we showed in had two products that won "Alfie" awards. These awards were given to the best components at the show by a commission of leading members in the LA Orange County Audiophile Society, and other experts in the industry.
High End Zone and Starke Sound collaborated with an amazing team to create a 27 channel Atmos home theater system that seemed to be a well received surprise to the audiophiles at the LAAS. Normally if there is a home theater demo at all at these shows, it is in some little back room and isn't very good. Not this time, we were right next to the registration desk. We had a lot of people come through, and as far as I could tell all of them had a good time.
Peter Brueninger of AV Showrooms helped us create the following video to give you a feeling of our theater creation process and the possibilities that are our available to our clients as well as being a walk through of the LAAS Demo theater. Enjoy and please feel free to contact us if you would like to know how we can work with you.
The Gateway Ballroom exhibit won an Alfie award for the Starke Sound IW-H5 Elite wall mounted speakers which we were using eight of to form the base level surround channels. Three IC-H5 Elite Starke Sound speakers accompanied the IW-H5s as the LCRs and eight IW-H3 Be speakers were ceiling mounted. The room’s bass was so thumping that some guests asked if we had put drivers under the chairs! This was accomplished through the power of six Starke Sound SUB36 subs and two massive (new to market) Rythmik subwoofers. These were all powered by Starke's A7 MK II amps, fed by the Trinnov Altitude 32 processor, with content from Kaleidascape's 4K Strato movie player. To help transform a hotel ballroom into a theater, we used Acoustic Sciences Corporation's TubeTraps, which also won an Alfie award, and Haikoustics panels on the walls and suspended from the trusses. The visuals in this room were handled with the help of Metra 4k HDMI cables feeding the JVC flagship projector the DLA-RS4500, projecting upon a Seymour-Screen Excellence RF 160HD Enlightor 4K acoustically transparent screen measuring 160″x90″. The visuals were as impressive as the 3D world created around you by the 11.8.8 Atmos system.
"The immersive soundfield was exceptional, and the sound was very clean, clear, and powerful throughout the audio range... As far as I can tell, the first LA Audio Show was a big success. I was glad to see one room dedicated to immersive sound, and I hope that home theater becomes an ever-increasing presence at LAAS and other audiophile confabs in the future. For this year, The High End Zone put on quite a show, and I commend the efforts of all involved!"- Scott Wilkinson, review for AVSforum.
Here is a video introduction to our 2 Channel room with Perfect8, Ypsilon Electronics, WireWorld, ASC and Delta H Designs.
Our 2 channel room used 2 Aurender music servers for sources, the A10 and the W20. The A10 was awarded a Best of Electronics Alfie award. The A10 is an all in one music server, DAC, and it even has volume control if you want to skip the preamp, though it does sound better with a preamp, especially if it's a PST 100 MK II. The W20 connected to the Ypsilon DAC 100, a new and improved version of which is coming soon. We had the Ypsilon PST 100 MK II for our preamp. The power amps were Ypsilon's Aelius MK IIs, which we had the pleasure of debuting at T.H.E. Show Newport last year. These powered the Perfect8 Point speakers. We were going to show Perfect8's top of the line Force speakers, but they were smashed by the shipping company, and this pair of Points was the only pair of Perfect8 speakers we could get in time for the show. Even though the Point MkIII speakers are about half the size of The Force, they're still one of the best speaker's I’ve ever heard. This room also used ASC's Alfie Award winning TubeTraps – an asset to all types of rooms.
The pairing of Perfect8 speakers and Ypsilon electronics helped make the act of listening to music in this room very transportive, and honestly – I had a hard time paying attention to our guests because the music kept drawing me in ….. Jason Victor Serinus visited our room on Sunday and had the following to say:
"Reproduction of a file of the Haydn Cello Concerto 1 exhibited lots of grace, with an airy, spacious, and warm sound that I found especially satisfying. I didn't write down the name of the track playing when I first entered the room, but it, too, was distinguished lovely warmth, notable spaciousness, and that indefinable quality known as grace. Timbres were extremely impressive.
"When I followed a suggestion to move to the second row, both midrange and bass response increased. Especially impressive was a 24/96 track of mezzo Jamie Barton singing Sibelius, where the system conveyed the huge expanse and changing dynamics of her stunning voice better than any other system I've encountered. When Barton opened her one-in-a-million, Golden Age voice to full capacity, you could literally hear it expand in the room. Wonderful." Jason Victor Serinus, review for Stereophile

T.H.E. Show Newport 2016
High End Zone had a wonderful time exhibiting at T.H.E. Show Newport in June of 2016. It was our first time to exhibit and while it was a look of work, we were delighted to have the honor of being picked as Stereo Times favorite room of the show. Our room, pictured below, was a penthouse suite where we played the music of our guest's choosing while using a full loom of Verastarr cables, along with Acoustic Zen Maestro speakers, Ypsilon electronics (including not only a PST 100 MkII but also the world premiere of the Aelius II monoblocks) and the Aurender W20 music server.
We are very grateful for all the visitors and we appreciated the reviews we received of our room, some of which are here:
If you did not make it to our room, please enjoy a virtual listen by watching this AV Showrooms video
John Stancavage's review of our room for Part-Time Audiophile focuses a lot on our Aurender music server, the top of the line Aurender W20 which we used as our source for the show. John fell in love with the server and wrote about wanting one for himself. We hope he has been able to get one! We love our Aurenders, they have helped us to listen to at least 5 TIMES as much music as we did before we had one. About our Newport roo, John shares that our "sound was very clean, dynamic and liquid. Even though it was digital, it seemed to have the depth and texture of analog, without the extra warmth or pops and clicks."
We look forward to meeting more of you at the L.A. Audio Show in June of 2017.
